Mary's Story
After high school, I attended Wilkes College, now Wilkes University, and earned a B.S. in Chemistry. After college, I worked as a research chemist at the Agricultural Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland. Due to illness, I had a long hospitalization at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and for some time was unable to work much. During that period, I worked as a blood chemist at Johns Hopkins, a kennel assistant, and a veterinary assistant. I returned to school, the University of Maryland, and got a Ph.D. in Psychology. I worked as a staff psychologist at a hospital for children and adolescents, then as the Mental Health Team Leader at another facility for children and adolescents.
While working at this last place, I began serving as a consultant to the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and finally left my job to consult full time. I also opened a private practice, doing psychotherapy, psychological testing, and neuropsychological evaluations. In 1985, I had to retire on disability. Since then I have not worked at all.
Some other things about me: my family moved to Maryland while I was in college, and so I have lived here since 1960. While at Wilkes, I had enjoyed playing in the Scran...Expand for more
ton Philharmonic Orchestra, for which I was paid, as a member of the musician's union, so I joined the Agricultural Symphony in Maryland. I also played with the American Light Opera Company, doing productions such as Carousel and Paint Your Wagon. Playing with ALOC was my favorite experience in music.
I now live alone in the same house we moved to in 1960. It had been my grandmother's house originally, and she sold it to my parents when my grandfather died in 1960. That is why we moved here. I'm not totally alone, I have a dog - a Lab, Golden, greyhound mix - and 4 cats. I am working on setting up an internet business to supplement my income. Recently I reconnected with a few former classmates on FaceBook, and that is how I came to Classmates. I hope to find people I knew in high school, and perhaps get to know some of them better than I knew them in high school. By the same token, I'd like them to get to know me better than they did when we were in high school. And I'm interested in where life has led the people I knew best in high school. I know about a few people, but there are a lot I still wonder about. I hope some of you will contact me so that we can get to know each other.
